What kinda machines would this directional valve be good for?

This Vickers valve works well in die casting, foundries, machine tools, presses, marine/offshore setups, test equipment, and turbine control systems.

flow rate on this valve is listed at 80 litres per minute -- that enough for a press application or is that pushin the upper limit?

For press work, 80 litres per minute is a solid ceiling and covers most mid-range press circuits without issue. The valve is actually listed as suitable for press applications, so you're not working against the grain there. Just make sure your system doesn't regularly spike above that flow rate under load, and you should be in good shape.
