Is this valve alright for a machine tool application, or is it better suited for something else?

It's well-suited for machine tool applications, but this SystemStak valve is also frequently used in die casting, foundry work, marine/offshore environments, presses, primary metal, plastics, pulp and paper, and test equipment.
