flow rate on this valve is listed at 40 LPM, but what kind of applications is it actually built for? trying to figure out if it fits what we got running in our shop

Forty liters per minute puts it in solid working range for a good number of industrial setups. The valve covers die casting and foundry work, machine tool use, press applications, primary metal and paper processing, marine and offshore environments, turbine control, and test equipment or simulation systems. Three- or four-way directional control gives it flexibility depending on how your circuit is configured. If your application falls into any of those categories and your flow demands stay at or under that 40 LPM rating, it fits the bill.
