Will this directional control valve work okay in a marine environment, like on a boat or offshore rig?

got a machine tool application runnin a medium-duty hydraulic circuit and been tryin to figure out if 40 lpm is gonna be enough flow for it. that about right for this valve?

For medium-duty machine tool circuits, 40 litres per minute is a solid working capacity on this valve. The DG4V-5 series was built with exactly those kinds of applications in mind, so you're not pushing it into territory it wasn't meant for. Just make sure your circuit demands don't regularly spike past that rated flow figure and you'll be in good shape.
