flow rate on this valve is listed at 700 LPM -- that seem right for a press or die casting setup, or is that more than most folks would actually need?

700 liters per minute is a high-capacity rating, so it fits right in on demanding press and die casting applications where you're moving a lot of fluid fast. For lighter-duty machine tool work it may be more than you need, but having that headroom doesn't hurt. The valve is built for exactly those kinds of heavy industrial environments, so you're not overspeccing by running it in a foundry or press line.
