flow rate on this valve is listed at 40 liters per minute -- is that enough to handle die casting equipment or is it gonna be too restricted for that kind of work?

Forty liters per minute sits right in the working range for most die casting setups. Vickers lists die casting and foundry work as one of the primary intended applications for this valve, so it's not a stretch to run it in that environment. The three- or four-way directional control gives you the flexibility most casting machines need for sequencing movements, and the Buna-N seals hold up well against the hydraulic fluids typically used in those systems.
