pump's got a Q250 valve plate listed, does that mean it won't work with a standard valve plate setup, or is that just the configuration it ships with?

The Q250 valve plate is part of how this unit is built and ships. It's not a field-swappable detail you'd adjust at install, it's baked into the pump's configuration from the factory. If your system was previously running a different valve plate spec, that's worth sorting out before dropping this one in. No case to inlet check valve is also part of this particular build, so both of those factors are fixed to this model as-is.
