flow rate on this one says 40 liters per minute -- is that enough to handle press or die casting work or is it more suited for lighter duty stuff?

For press and die casting applications, 40 liters per minute is a reasonable working capacity. Both of those are listed application areas for this valve, so it's built with those environments in mind. Die casting and foundry work in particular can be demanding, and Vickers engineered this series to hold up in those conditions. Whether 40 LPM fits your specific circuit depends on your system design, but the valve itself is rated and positioned for exactly that kind of industrial use.
