flow rate on this valve is listed at 40 litres per minute -- that metric or is there a GPM equivalent i should be using for my system specs?

40 litres per minute works out to roughly 10.6 gallons per minute, so if your system is spec'd in GPM that's the number to work with. Worth double-checking your circuit demand falls within that range before committing to this model.
