flow rate on this valve is listed at 40 LPM, that enough for most press and machine tool setups, or is it gonna be a bottleneck in higher-demand circuits?

For most standard press and machine tool circuits, 40 litres per minute is right in the working range. Those applications typically don't push extreme flow demands through a single directional valve, so you're unlikely to hit a ceiling under normal operating conditions. Where it could get tight is in larger, faster-cycling systems that stack flow requirements. If your circuit stays within that 40 LPM ceiling, this valve handles the job without issue.
