Running this on a refuse hauler setup, does the 12 volt coil work straight off the truck's electrical system, or is there something extra needed to make it play nice?

Most refuse haulers run a 12V DC system, and that lines up directly with what this valve is rated for. The coil on this unit is spec'd at 12 volts, so you're not looking at any kind of voltage conversion or extra wiring gymnastics to get it powered up. Just make sure your circuit can handle the draw and you've got a clean, stable connection to the solenoid leads.
