Running this on a harvester setup, does the 12 volt coil work straight off a standard machine electrical system, or is there something extra needed to get it wired in right?

Twelve volts is about as common as it gets on agricultural equipment, so it'll pull power straight from the existing electrical system on most harvesters without any converter or step-down hardware in between. The valve itself is built around that voltage, so as long as your system is delivering a clean 12V feed, you're in good shape to wire it up directly.
