Running this on a refuse hauler, does it handle 12V DC straight off the truck's electrical system, or does it need some kind of converter in between?

Runs on 12 volts, so it'll pull straight from a standard truck electrical system without any converter. That's part of what makes this valve practical for mobile equipment. No additional power conditioning needed on your end.
