Running this on a refuse hauler, wondering if 12 volts is the right fit or if we'd need to wire anything special to make it work?

Twelve volts is exactly what this valve runs on, so if your hauler is already set up with a 12V system, you're plugging straight into what the valve expects. No step-up or step-down conversion needed on your end.
