Running this on a refuse hauler that needs the valve shut when there's no power. Does this one default back to closed when the solenoid's not energized?

normally closed is exactly what this valve does. When the solenoid loses power, it returns to the closed position, so no flow passes through until it gets that 24-volt signal. That's a pretty standard requirement on refuse and mobile equipment where you want a fail-safe shutoff, and this one covers it right out of the box.
