Hey, can I use this with some water-based stuff, or is it strictly for oil?

This directional control valve uses Buna-N seals. They're generally compatible with petroleum-based oils and some water-glycol fluids, but it's always best to double-check the fluid compatibility charts to be sure for your specific application.

flow rate on this valve is listed at 30 LPM -- is that enough for most press and machine tool setups, or do folks usually need something bigger?

For a lot of press and machine tool applications, 30 liters per minute is right in the workable range. It won't suit high-flow circuits that need serious volume, but for moderate-duty machine tool work and press control it gets the job done without oversizing the valve. Just make sure your system demand stays within that threshold and you'll be fine.
