runs up to 80 litres a minute, but what kind of duty cycle are we talkin here -- is this valve built for continuous operation or more of an intermittent thing?

Continuous-duty use is exactly what this valve is built for. The Buna-N seals and 30-watt power draw are matched to applications where the valve stays in service for extended periods without cycling down. That's a big part of why it shows up in press and primary metal environments where stopping isn't really an option.
